Introduction

Pour la toute première fois de leur histoire, les Bibliothèques Patrimoniales d’Ajaccio et de Bastia se réunissent pour une exposition autour des ouvrages patrimoniaux relatifs à la science du végétal. Ces collections ont été léguées à la Corse par Tommaso Prelà, Lucien Bonaparte, le Cardinal Fesch ou encore Louis Campi, avec une ambition d’excellence pour la population insulaire, qui peut alors bénéficier de cette manne scientifique, provenant des plus grands couvents ou bibliothèques de leur époque. Cette exposition se veut en partie légataire de cette ambition, en valorisant pour le plus grand nombre ces collections, tout en suivant la construction de la pensée scientifique autour du végétal et de la botanique depuis le XVIe siècle. De fait, les deux Bibliothèques possèdent des ouvrages très anciens sur l’art du végétal, la botanique et les jardins.
