Welcome to heritage library of fesch

The Fesch library was created on the initiative of Napoleon Bonaparte, then the first Consul. He appointed André-François Miot, administrator of the departments of Golo and Liamone, to create a public library in Ajaccio. The latter was addressed to Napoleon’s brother, Lucien, then Minister of the Interior, and the two men sent 12,627 volumes from the revolutionary confiscations in Paris. The creation of the fund preceded the construction of the library. The books were installed in the north wing of the Fesch Palace in 1865, when the monument was completed. Since 1986, the library has been listed as a historical monument.
